Bob’s creative approach to EFT is his own, yet it is deeply grounded in the core EFT principles as taught in the official EFT videos. For complete EFT training, including the free manual and low-cost DVD sets, please visit www.emofree.com.
In addition to the discussion below about EFT, please see my disclaimer.EFT
was developed in the early 1990's by Gary Craig, and has been described as a meridian-based tapping technique. It may be thought of
as an emotional form of acupuncture, but without the needles. The theoretical basis of EFT is that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the
body's energy system. The Chinese have known about and used this
energy system for thousands of years, and it forms the basis for
acupuncture and other forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The theory suggests that when this
energy system becomes imbalanced, the result may take the form of any
type of emotional distress, including fears and phobias, anxiety,
anger, sadness, guilt and depression. It is also believed that physical symptoms, such as
headaches, chronic aches and pains, allergies and asthma often
have emotional roots, and it's possible to use EFT to help with these symptoms as well.
EFT has been described as
a powerful but deceptively simple technique, the basics of which can be
quickly taught to anyone, including children. It involves a systematic
routine of tapping with the fingertips on "stress-relief" points
(acupressure points) while "tuning in to" or talking about a
distressing memory or situation. As one or more rounds of tapping take
place, those new to EFT have reported being amazed to find that the negative
emotions associated with the memory or situation just seem to fade
away and disappear. As a result, they feel relaxed and peaceful and
able to think more clearly. They still have the memory or situation,
but it feels entirely different without the negative emotional
component.
Anecdotal reports indicate that most emotional issues issues may be partially or completely relieved within a relatively short time using this process. Although EFT has not been fully researched, initial studies have demonstrated that it's possible for the results to be long-lasting, and clients report that their overall disposition changes in a positive way as a natural result of the healing. I have been involved in cases where difficulties that have persisted in spite of years of work using methods such as traditional psychotherapy or drug therapy seem to be relieved in only a few sessions. If not, it has been my experience with clients that relief is generally possible through persistent repetition of the process and may be achieved within days, weeks, or months rather than years. I have also witnessed physical healing that seems to be long-lasting as well. However, physical issues may take more detective work to get at the core emotional issue(s) that may be contributing to the symptoms.
While indications are that even neophytes and children may experience positive results with EFT, it has been my experience that EFT is an even more amazing tool in the
hands of a skilled practitioner. According to anecdotal information, Emotional Freedom Techniques has been
used confidently by hundreds of therapists on many thousands of clients
with successes on even the most difficult problems. Below are listed some examples of issues where I have personally had success with clients, or others have reported success using EFT to relieve symptoms:
- Phobias, such as fear of heights, flying, enclosed places, driving, spiders, etc.
- Fears related to performance issues, including public speaking, singing, test anxiety or sports
- Emotional trauma from abuse, auto or other accident, war experiences, etc.
- Insomnia and nightmares
- Addictive urges such as food and cigarette smoking
- Emotional issues such as anxiety, stress, anger and depression
- Chronic pain, headache, and other physical conditions (which often have an emotional component)
- Bedwetting
- Stuttering
- Substance sensitivities (allergy-like reactions) to pollen, foods, chemicals, medications, etc.
